THE COZYROOT FIELD NOTES · 02
Follow the route your clothes take.
Think about where clothing comes off and how it reaches the washer. A hamper near the changing area is useful only if it is easy to drop clothes into and easy to empty. Measure the spot first, including the clearance needed for a lid or cabinet front.
Open top or covered?
An open woven hamper is convenient for quick drop-ins. A lid keeps the contents out of view in a shared room. A tilt-out cabinet gives laundry a more furniture-like home, but its front needs space to swing open.
One compartment or two?
A single basket suits a simple routine. Two sections let you separate clothing as you go, reducing the sorting task later. Compare the external dimensions as well as the stated capacity: a wider divided hamper may use more floor space than a taller single basket.
Think about the emptying step.
A removable liner lets you carry the contents separately from the outer basket. Some liners are listed as washable; read the individual page rather than assuming the same care applies to every material. Carrying handles and a folding body can also matter when space is shared.
For a cabinet, plan the installation.
Check the assembly requirement, wall position and supplied anti-tip fittings before deciding on a location. Keep the top and drawer clearances in mind, along with the footprint. Choose a piece you can use comfortably through the full laundry routine.
